Ms. Funk concentrates her practice on civil defense litigation and matters related to coal mine health and safety regulation.
Mary Catherine completed her undergraduate work at Roanoke College, earning a Bachelor of Arts in English. She spent the years immediately after her graduation teaching both kindergarten and high school English. During her teaching career, Mary Catherine coached Varsity Cross-Country, and in her final year of teaching, she was named Teacher of the Year by the student body.
Mary Catherine attended West Virginia University College of Law, where she served as Chair of the Ethics Council, Vice President of the Board of Directors of the West Virginia Fund for Law in the Public Interest, and she was named the Dean’s Fellow in Civil Procedure. She was a member of the National Trial Team and was active with the Public Interest Advocates. Additionally, she earned the CALI Award for Academic Excellence in Gender and the Law, and was a student attorney in the General Legal Clinic.
After her first year of law school, Mary Catherine was a summer clerk to United States District Judge Irene M. Keeley. Mary Catherine is admitted to practice law in all West Virginia state courts and in the United States District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia.
