Throughout his career, Mr. Pence has represented individuals and businesses in a wide range of matters in West Virginia state and federal courts as well as federal administrative tribunals. Mr. Pence has defended clients in cases involving professional liability, insurance coverage disputes, automobile accidents, and premises liability, among others. Mr. Pence has extensive experience representing coal operators in personal injury actions and has presented seminars and published articles on this topic.
Since joining Allen Guthrie & Thomas, Mr. Pence has generally focused on the defense of coal operators before federal and state administrative tribunals. Mr. Pence has represented an individual at trial charged with a violation of Section 110(c) of the Mine Act and recently defended an operator in an expedited hearing. Mr. Pence has also represented operators and independent contractors in serious accident investigations. In addition to his work for the coal industry, Mr. Pence continues to represent clients in general litigation matters pending before West Virginia state and federal courts.
Mr. Pence resides in his native Charleston, West Virginia, with his wife, Julie, and daughter, Katherine. He is a member of the West Virginia State Bar, Defense Trial Counsel of West Virginia, the West Virginia Coal Association, and is an officer of the Kanawha County Bar Association.
